While most of the time this is just the cache and everything is fine in the Live version, you may want to check using GSC just in case. If you have added a piece of content to your existing article, you can check whether Google has read and indexed the newly added content by checking its HTML text variant (text only variant) in Google Cache. If you have made technical changes to the source code, you can view these changes in the " Source " tab of the Google Cached version . Let's say you changed the meta description of a page, you can see if the changes have taken effect to show on the SERP. Google Cache for Niche Edits and Tiered Link Building Google Cache can also be used well for link building.
In particular, it has good use for 2 types of link building – niche edits and tiered link building. Niche edits, or link adding, are when you edit existing content on someone's site to add a link that points to your target page. Check out this guide where I break down the niche editing LOB Directory strategy . Due to Google Cache, it takes some time for newly made niche edits to be noticed by Google and start transferring link juice. This is because Google cannot crawl the source URL immediately after adding a link. Google cache helps us determine whether Google has already noticed the link insertion. You can use it like this: Wait a day or 2 after creating the connection.
Then use the instructions above to view the cached version of the page. If you open the cached version and see that the link you added is not there yet, that means Google hasn't updated its cache yet. In other words, the last time it crawled the page was before you created the link. There are two things you can do: Ask the webmaster to submit the article to be crawled in Search Console . Find a URL indexing tool and submit the link page there. Within a day, you will see that Google updates its cache and shows your link. The same hack can also be used for layered link building. If you're not familiar with tired link building, you can check out my layered link building guide here .
